Unbleached Coffee Filter
Rubber Bands
85g of coarse ground coffee
710ml of room temp or cold water (bottled or filtered)
1litre mason jar
NOTE Please make sure to weight and measure everything accurately!
Loosely pack the coffee grounds in your filter. You don’t want to pack it too densely otherwise the water won’t be able to penetrate all the way into the center of the coffee grounds. Then pinch the edges and tie it together with a clean rubber band. Make sure it's tight so no particles can come out.
Place the sealed filter into your mason jar and pour the water over it, filling the jar most of the way. Again, you’re going to want to use either filtered or bottled water for this. You’re going to want to seal the jar tight and keep it out of sunlight to avoid oxidation and warming up the mixture which can lead to stale flavours and bitterness.
Cold brew coffee isn’t for immediate enjoyment unfortunately. As you’re not using heat to speed up the brewing process, you’re going to need to wait between 12 and 18 hours for the beans to be fully extracted.
At the end of the process, just remove the bag and throw away (or recycle and reuse if you can with the type of bag you have).
This is where the fun starts. Cold Brew coffee is versatile that you can really go to town trying different ideas for how to use it. You can pour over ice, milk, drink as it is or maybe even try it in a little baking. The door is open – just have fun with it.
